Why did God choose Israel to be His chosen people?
God is eternal, yet He has revealed Himself through the person of Jesus Christ. So the eternal God (the I am) who is outside of time & History reveals Himself in time and history.
God is eternal, yet He has revealed Himself through the person of Jesus Christ. So the eternal God (the I am) who is outside of time & History reveals Himself in time and history.
We read in Rev 13:7-8 “It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” http://ebible.com/nkjv/Revelation/13/7/-/13/8?ori=405848.
What can we observe:
Those who worship the beast (in connection with the last days) did not have their names written in the book of life of the the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. See also Rev 17:8.
God had predetermined before the foundation of the world the lamb (Jesus His son) would be slain. This is the very same whom John the baptist proclaimed when he said “ Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29
So when God predetermine the coming of the lamb (Jesus His son) was it in time & history or before time & history? .......Before.
But for God’s word, will and purpose to be fulfilled it has to be worked out through time and history doesn’t it?
So lets determine through scripture how God was and is to bring about the “Lamb” to be our Saviour .
Types and shadows.
In scripture we find things that show a type or shadow of the true things before we see the true thing. For example we see Israels captivity in Egypt, the Passover feast and going to the promise land as a type of deliverance from Satan’s rule, to being saved by the lamb out of the world (darkness) into to the Kingdom of God. Col 1:12-14
In the case of a shadow it’s interesting that a shadow can only be cast when the real object is present. Another examples is the law given to Moses Hebrews 10:1, and Col 2:16-17 that says “So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.” The shadow was somehow cast from what was to be the substance (Christ)
Preeminence
We are trying to answer “Is the right question to ask? Why did God choose Israel to be His chosen people?”
But before we are ask the question we must understand that for God to choose the elect they have to have been Chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world. And therefore and in fact we need to understand that Jesus Christ, the Messiah had to be the chosen one of God before all things, and so He is. Col 1:15-20 Says He is before all things and above all things etc.
So the elect both Jew & gentile are chosen in Him before the foundation of the world. Eph 1, Rom 8:28-31
Interesting comparisons can be seen with God & Israel, Christ & the Church and Adam & Eve in Gen 2:21-23, we read “And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.”
Marriage is a joining of two to become one. Eve the women (a type of Israel-Church) comes out of the side of Adam a type of Christ. Adam came first as Christ is before all things. (Col 1:15-20)
Furthermore in
1 Corinthians 11:8-13 we read “For man is not from woman, but woman from man. Nor was man created for the woman,
but woman for the man. For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.
Nevertheless, neither is man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Lord. For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God. Judge among yourselves. Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?”
The order of headship see also (1 Corinthians 11:3)
In order for Christ to be born in the flesh He must be born through the women Israel See Rev 12:5
see also prophecies of the genealogy of Christ : Isaiah 11:1-2, 2 Samuel 7:16, Isaiah 9:6-7,Micah 5:2, 4, 2 Samuel 5
And in order for The women (Israel) to be chosen. Christ must be The Chosen.
Gen 2:23 says And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.”
The elect Israel and the Church come from the man Christ chosen in Him from the foundation of the world.
Prophecy
Starting in Gen 3:15 we read of the conflict between the seed of the women and the seed of Satan.
Gen 9:26-27 The Lord was the God of Shem. Shem is where the name, Semitic comes from.
In Gen 12:1-3, 7; 17:18-21 we can determine that as Isaac was to be the son of promise to Abraham, so too was Jesus the Saviour whom God would bring forth from the Jews (John 4:22) Those who would inherit the promised land as would all those who put their faith in Christ for their salvation See also Matt 1 Gal 3:8, 14, 16.
Israel would have to the people God chose from before the foundation of the world for this to be true.
David was to be King of Israel, an eternal kingdom, this refers to Jesus “He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 2Sam 7:13, Jer 33:17, see also Matt 1
To answer “Is the right question to ask? Why did God choose Israel to be His chosen people”
Isaiah 55:10-12 Says “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
Isaiah 55:10-12 Says “For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven,
And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My
word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. “For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace; The mountains and the hills Shall break forth into singing before you, And all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
The word of God from Gods mouth accomplishes what is pleasing to God.
The word of God from Gods mouth accomplishes what is pleasing to God.
Jesus is the word God sent as the sacrifice to accomplish what was required to atone for sin.
All who are choosen in Christ Both jesw and gentile can only be chosen if is the Christ one.
Which He is.
